First major update now available

Though it's been long enough for many of you to consider me dead by internet standards, we're not quite there yet.  Even though progress has been slow it has been made and today you get to see the fruit of that labor.  The most notable new features are two additional patients and over an hour of readable dialog being added.  If you want to find out more, read on.  If not, you can go ahead and go straight to the downloads on tha main page and nobody will be the wiser.

----- Gameplay Changes and Additions -----

Story mode has three new stage types available:

  1.  Miswired Dynabeam - Whenever new blocks spawn, circuits and cells on the other side of the playing field will change type.
  2.  Bacteria - A special bacteria block spawns on these levels. Like botroaches, it doesn't change type when it passes the center of the screen. Unlike botroaches; however, they will appear in abundance.
  3. Tilted Dynascope - Blocks will only spawn from one side on this level type.

The return of basic puzzle mode - Puzzle Mode's basic variant has been added, replacing the calibration levels on free play mode and in the tutorial.

  • In this mode, you are tasked with destroying all blocks on the screen within a set number of turns and in some cases, blocks themselves will even have their own move limit. (The difficulty for this mode may need balanced, especially in free play mode.)

Scheduled Visits - Added randomly generated patients as special nodes that have no story.  (Their names pull from the supporters/special thanks list and can involve a wide variety of game options that will change/respawn once every few hours.) You need not win against them to go on with the game but they reward double the tickets for your time invested.

A new item has been added to the vending machine.

  • Reboot Module - Buyable for 600 tickets. Lets you rebuild the level once per stage in puzzle mode. This may be modified to rewind up to 5 turns in the future. Let me know what you think.(Please Note: The slip drive is no longer available in puzzle levels as it pretty much meant it had to be required for a puzzle level for it to retain any difficulty.)

Added a new background that you can unlock for doing extremely well in turn-based mode during free play.  (If you have the old one, you can keep it. For everyone else, it will be remade unlockable in another location eventually.)

You can now pick the text speed from 1 of 4 options, ranging from 5 times slower than before to 5 times faster.

Added several new text animations and made what I believe are vast improvements to the text chatter sound.

----- Story -----

Over 20,000 words have been added, giving around an hour more of story dialog.

The following surgery stories have been added to the game:

  1.  Click Flaire - What happens when a wrestler's voice box gets stuck on repeat and they can only say "Woo"? I dunno, black magic probably.
  2.  Gilbot Whitehands - His hands are white and he has an arrow stuck in his head. Maybe if you are lucky you can decrease that number.

In addition, these four non-patient story nodes have been added:

  1. Billie's Burgers - Dandroid's sister helps him get out of a slump by letting him cook for a change. (This was largely to introduce new characters but I won't complain if you steal my burger recipe.)
  2. Solicitor Express - Trying to drive up business, Dandroid takes to the streets to hand out flyers for his surgery services. (Some of the npcs in this use names from the supporters/special thanks list, chosen at random every time you read it.)
  3. The World of Tomorrow, Today - Along with his sister and a new friend from the diner, Dandroid visits the echo of a a monument from history's past.
  4. Halloween 2078 - Whether it's a gas leak or candy time, a familiar 'spirit' has come back to haunt Dandroid.

(Please keep in mind that all new character sprites that appear within these areas are placeholders and will be changed, perhaps even drastically.)

----- BUG FIXES -----

(General)

  • Greatly improved stereo audio positioning. Most notably, your head no longer needs to be on upside down.
  • Finally got my hands on a controller, which means that after fixing a dozen or so bugs that joysticks now work for real instead of crashing the game and whatever other weird stuff happened on the countless other menus that I programmed blindly. (Do keep in mind that game controls are still not shown in several spots. Let me know what menu locations need a good visual indicator and I'll hop on it.)
  • Plus many other bugs that present me forgot but past me assures there were more than zero.

(Known Issues)

  • There is a rare problem with puzzle mode where blocks that have more than zero moves remaining become unmovable anyway. So far I have not been able to reproduce it but if you encounter it, let me know what control method you were using, how many moves the block had left that won't move and if it's making the sound for obstruction or the one for being at zero moves. Screenshots and video would also be greatly helpful.
